No nonsense wall-writings of an "AnJOLINA" Jolie fan and a Catholic school-girl gone bad. Both live in a world of endless changes joined by common ideals and opinions regarding things--bitchy, stupid and real.

Athlete Sighting
It's 10:32am and I am at an internet cafe in Brisbane still hyperventilating because of two reasons:
1. I just discovered there IS starbucks here.....THERE IS LIFE after all....
2. While sipping a grande caffe mocha (Daniel, you have NO idea how good that feels after going without starbucks for how many months) and in walks Australian swimmer Geoff Huegill........(check him out at www.swimming.org.au to see who he is)
I can die and go to heaven now.....we saw the American swim team in Starbucks also (Tom Wilkens and co.) but stupid me left my camera in the hotel so I'll have to die at least a day later....so then maybe I'd be able to make time to bump into swimmer Pieter van den Hoogenband......aaaah, I'm having a good weekend! (which is true as I haven't said a bitchy thing at all in this blog)....

What a Way To Go
I had a good start this morning.....woke up early early, so I could hang my laundry which I did the night before (see? I do have foresight) because I'm going away for the weekend. I had a nice breakfast of hasbrowns, a sunny-side up egg (I don't think I'll ever stop calling it that way) and some kabana. And I was wearing my nice new trousers (read:jeans) a nice brown top to go with my spiffy brown, beige and blue bag (it's the in color combination according to the fashionistas here) which was a fresh change from my usual crappy corporate getup. I was so looking forward to leaving work an hour and a half earlier than usual & I taking the bus to Brisbane to meet up with a friend who was flying from Sydney. We're supposed to catch some of the beach volleyball and swimming events at the 2001 Goodwill Games. Then sometime around 10am, I was just going about my PC when I looked at my Lotus Notes and all my, well, Notes, were gone! O.M.G. I had files in that were so important I'd be lost without them ! Oh crap. I guess there's really no such thing as a perfect day.

Nostalgia
I was reading the entertainment section of the PDI's website & I found an article about our all time favorite cheesy movie Daniel. Pretty in Pink. Here's half of the review (cos it actually reviews a couple of Molly Ringwald's movies) and it brings back so much memories....not that we were teens of the 80's like they were, but it brings back my crush on Andrew McArthy heheh)
Molly Ringwald: America’s old-time teenage sweetheart

Willowy, sallow-faced beauty
SHE is the willowy, sallow-faced beauty with the distinctive pout who carved her niche in show business in the mid-’80s. Before Alicia Silverstone and Julia Stiles made it big on the silver screen, Molly Ringwald was the teen icon of the Sweet Dreams’ generation. Part of her appeal are her movies that chronicle one’s bittersweet passage from adolescence to adulthood, and showcase the excitement of high school and poignant reminiscence of young love. So let’s relive the Molly mania with a retrospect of her popular films.
She is Andie, a high school senior who lives on the wrong side of the tracks, in the John Hughes’ flick "Pretty in Pink." The movie’s major come-on is its predictable plot that revolves around the social battle between the haves and the have-nots. Ringwald’s social zero character falls in love with Blane, played by the sweetly handsome Andrew McCarthy. Blane is a rich guy who drives a BMW and struts around in his penny loafers sans the socks. Andie, in her self-styled secondhand wardrobe, and Blane, in his blazers and button downs, make a curious, if not ludicrous pair.
The movie is replete with the eclectic ’80s fad: Large, chunky hoops, oversized bangles and aero socks worn over pointy high-heeled boots. Andie’s high school is populated with kids sporting gel-slicked hairstyles and mile-high bangs stiffened with hairspray. The record store where Andie works displays a plethora of vinyl albums at a time when they were considered staples that sustained the average teenager’s existential angst.
Jon Cryer is a riot as Andie’s schizoid best friend Ducky who’s so miserably in love with her. One feels his pain as he helplessly looks on while Blane takes Andie’s heart for a ride and inadvertently breaks it. A deliberate loony and consummate romantic, he steals the movie from Ringwald and McCarthy as he utters the film’s finest lines: "If you got your heart splattered all over hell and you’re feeling low and dirty, don’t look to me to help pump you back because for probably the first time in your life, I won’t be there." Or how about: "You know Andie, it’s true, they don’t write love songs like they used to," as he contemplates on the possibilities of the tunes blaring from Andie’s car stereo.
Okay, so they border on the sappy, but who cares? If you’ve heard those lines, you’re an insipid fool not to be smitten. Andie takes her being a fashion rebel a trifle bit too far as she dons doily-collared blouses over off-shoulder turtlenecks. So we’re not the least bit surprised when, on their first date, Blane asks her, "So, would you like to change?," to which she retorts, "As a matter of fact, I already have," while showing off her paisley printed dress and pearl necklace.
The movie further plays up the teen element in its prom scene. While the Orchestral Manouvers in the Dark’s (OMD) "If You Leave" was being played, teenagers clad in tuxedoes and designer gowns were swirling on the dance floor. The new wave music of New Order and Psychedelic Furs are also featured but the Association’s "Cherish" also gets a couple of minutes’ play along with John Lennon’s "Love," which was rhapsodized by Jon Cryer in one scene where he pines after his beloved Andie.

Not Good....
My aunt just dropped me off at work today & went back home. She's got the flu and so's everyone else at work which is why we're on the phones double time covering for everyone who's at home watching cheesy soaps, sipping hot soup & sleeping whenever they get the chance.
At around 9am, I was working with this high school girl who was doing work experience with our company and I was showing her how to analyze the adverts in the paper when I suddenly realized that oh no, I'm not feeling well! My hands are usually frozen cold in the morning but as I get to work they warm up. And here I was one hour into work and I was having the shivers and feeling a big lightheaded. Should I go home? Hah, the good girl in me told me not to as we already had 3 people away.
It's now 3:32pm and my boss is in Brisbane for a conference so we're doing our own thang, relaxing a bit and I still feel like I've stepped off that Enterprise ride at Enchanted Kingdom. It's scary cos recently there's been an outbreak of meningoccocal (sp? explain danes?) here in Queensland and quite a few number of children have died from it. I don't know if it hits adults as well but it's a pretty quick way to go so NO WAY am I contracting that. It starts off with the usual fever and sore throat, and then you get those purple spots and then you're dead. All in 2-3days. That's waaay too quick for me...so nu-uh. I am NOT getting sick, or else I'll be dead by Thursday and I won't even get to watch the Goodwill Games during the weekend, I won't be able to fly home for good, heck, I won't even have time to make bilin who gets my cd collection, all my beloved nine west shoes, my bags, hahaha. What a ridiculous thought. Just an aspirin, some juice, lots of food for dinner & a full night's sleep will do me good.
Daniel, forgive the dummy in me, but how do I make the link to website thingies? Like if I saw something really good or funny that I wanted to put a clicky underline thingy on?

Dear Mr. Daniel
This is really funny Danes. Remember I texted you the other day asking you what the VCR system in the Philippines was? Well, that’s because I bought the Anne of Green Gables trilogy which I couldn’t find anywhere in Manila and I was thinking “did I just waste around $100.00 for this if I bring it home and not be able to play it anyway?”
So what I did was I surfed onto philips.com to see if they had any VCRs that could support both PAL and NTSC. I remember that we used to have a Sony VCR (which for some reason, mysteriously disappeared......I think one of the many maids who have come and gone must’ve taken it with them, hmph) but then since we had a Philips TV (which unfortunately isn’t a WEGA danes, but it’s flat naman so it’s the same na rin) I was thinking of buying a Philips VCR na lang din (which I realized later was so stupid....I should’ve bought the DVD version and then buy na lang the DVD player no?). Ok, i’m veering off topic, and since the philips site was like, empty (just pics and a few specs but nothing that could really answer my question) and the FAQ page didn’t even have any FAQs at all. I decided to email and ask. Here’s the response that I got:
Dear Ms Ninia,
You're correct, the color system/format in Australia (PAL) is different from the Philippines (NTSC).
You can be able to playback VHS tapes that you may buy in Australia provided the VCR machine and the TV (that is connected to the VCR) you have here in the Philippines have multi-system feature. This means the these units supports either PAL, PAL-SECAM,
or NTSC. Otherwise, the problem arises: with picture but in black/white or no picture at all.
Unfortunately, we have no multi-system model in our current VCR line-up while we have some TV models with such feature.
Hope this answers your inquiry. Thank you.
Jim

Ouch.
I was trying to make something out of the mess of papers on my desk so I was shifting sheets of paper here and there....trying to make myself look busy & so that I might see half the wood on my desk. And I got a paper cut...ooooowwwww it hurts. It runs from the crook between the thumb & the index finger until the middle part of my palm so it just plain hurts. I wish i had a band aid. Everytime I open up my hand to try an grab something it just makes me wince!
Thanks for the gum advice....is a pack of gum a day excessive?
And I'm still mourning for Aaliyah as well. She was one of the few young artists who:
a. didn't sound like britney spears (her music had soul man, and she could sing)
b. didn't look like britney spears (she's black, she's not blond & blue eyed; and she looks sexy whether garbed in a sack or in that hot outfit for her Try Again video)
c. made a name for herself at a young age by selling millions of records because her song was GOOD
d. made a transition from singing to acting and was NOT bashed for it cos she did a good job (Romeo Must Die, that new Anne Rice film that's coming up, and the sequels to The Matrix)
tsk tsk tsk talaga....
5:12:00 PM
PHENYLKETONURICS
I am not so sure what they mean by EXCESSIVE but I guess that's if you consume about three packs a day...that's OVER EXCESSIVE. Phenylketonurics is a group name for a chemical compound containing phenylalanine which is an amino acid. Amino acids are the buildingblocks of proteins. So the amino acids stick together to form your proteins. With that, kidneys work doubly as hard when they filter protein to be absorbed back by the body maybe because it's too big of a molecule for the poor and humble organ to take. So if you take in too much of that gum that contains phenylalanine which is an amino acid and hence what makes up your proteins, you might have kidney problems afterwards or if you are already suffering from a kidney disorder or you are prone to such, it might aggravate your condition. This is one bad effect of going into an all-protein diet. This is not to easy for our kidneys to take.
Have a good week ahead of you Nikki. Read your creepy apartment slash house thing...scary! I have to mourn and wallow for the loss of a very good artist Aaliyah. She died in a plane crash yesterday afternoon (1:00 pm - Manila time). That was what Delamar said in the radio. Hahahaha, I'm still listening to those two! :o)

I Still Can't Believe It
I logged on yesterday to download my mail and I got a message from a friend who said that Aaliyah died in a plane crash. No way. Yes way. It's on cnn and on her official website already and I can't believe she's gone. I was a big fan eversince her One in a Million days.....I loved her ssong on Anastasia (one of the better animated movies that I've seen -- well, second to Emperor's New Groove. that one still tops my list Danes) and esp Try Again on Romeo Must Die. Now what will happen to the sequel to The Matrix? She was just as old as me.....whatta loss.
